  • Arts Council of Baton Rouge 427 Laurel Street Baton Rouge, LA, 70801 United States (map)

The Rouge Roulette is an individual poetry slam competition featuring 15 of the best spoken word poets int he southern region competing for $1000 in cash prizes.

The Rouge Roulette Individual Poetry Slam is the largest poetry slam in Louisiana.  It brings together elite competitive performance poets from all over the region.  This year, we have poets from Louisiana, Texas, Florida, North Carolina, and Georgia.  In this event, poets compete in 3 rounds, each round scored with the same criteria.

Poets are judged by five members of the audience, chosen at random.  Judges score each poem by the same set of criteria, including content, performance, and originality.  The high and low scores of each round are omitted, and the middle three are added to give the performer his or her score.

The Rouge Roulette consists of three rounds.  The 8 highest scoring poets from round one move on to round two, and the top 4 from round two move onto the final round.  Each round consists of 3 minute poems.  This is the second installment of the Rouge Roulette.

General audience admission: $5 presale/$10 at the door.
