Grand Slam Finals featuring Danez Smith

Forward Arts Inc. EXCITEDLY invites you to join us for the GRAND SLAM FINALS of the tenth annual ALL CITY Teen Poetry Slam Festival!! This year's team finalists include: McKinley High, Dutchtown High, Baton Rouge High (Team A) and Baton Rouge High (Team B). Individual finalists include: Rainon Warren, Julia Powell, Jamarcus Goudeau, Jolie Gilbert, Airet'ay Spears, Chelsey Scott, Samarian and Ellis Herring will compete for the opportunity to be crowned ALL CITY 2016 champions and to earn a spot on the 2016 Forward Arts All Star Slam Team.

GRAND SLAM FINALS will also feature internationally acclaimed poet/author Danez Smith!

About Danez Smith
Danez Smith is the 2016 winner of the Kate Tufts Poetry Award and 2016 Hopwood Awardee. A MFA candidate at the University of Michigan, Smith also teaches with InsideOut Detroit. They are a 2014 Ruth Lilly, Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Fellow, a Cave Canem and VONA alum, recipient of a McKnight Foundation Fellowship, and winner of the Lambda Literary Award for Gay Poetry. Smith is also a two-time Individual World Poetry Slam finalist, placing 2nd in 2014, and a founding member of the Dark Noise Collective. Smith’s 2nd full-length collection will be published by Graywolf Press in 2017. Their work has published & featured widely including in Poetry Magazine, Beloit Poetry Journal, Buzzfeed, Blavity, & Ploughshares. Smith is from St. Paul, MN.

This will be a HISTORIC night as we celebrate ten incredible years of youth spoken word programming!
