2017 All Paws on Deck Walk for Pet Cancer Awareness

All Paws on Deck will kick off its pet cancer awareness events for 2017 with its 3rd Annual All Paws on Deck Walk and Benefit for Pet Cancer Awareness at the East Baton Rouge Parish Public Library on Sunday, April 2nd. This year's event will include a volunteer fair to help area shelter programs recruit volunteers after the devastation of 2016's floods.

The American Business Women’s Association (ABWA) Crescent City Connections 2017 Award Ceremony and Member Appreciation Day will be held on March 9th from 11:00 -1:00 at Ralph Brennan’s Heritage Grill.

The ABWA Protege Award is given to members in good standing who have been a member for at least 1 year and attended at least 10 meetings within that time. They should also have served in a leadership position in ABWA, sponsored a new member and/or completed a WIN course through ABWA.

The Woman of the Year Award is one of the most prestigious honors bestowed upon a member. In addition, to the above criteria, which includes sponsoring at least 3 individuals in the organization, they must also earn at least 50 points on a stringent rating chart used to evaluate candidates.

12th Cinema on the Bayou Film Festival

An annual eight-day film festival held during the last week in January at various venues in and around Lafayette, Louisiana, the 12th Cinema on the Bayou Film Festival will be held on January 25-February 1, 2017.

 

The Festival will screen nearly 200 films from around the world -- including U.S., Louisiana and World premieres -- with over 200 filmmakers, producers, actors, musicians, distributors, grant source representatives and other industry professionals in attendance from across the United States and Canada, as well as from Japan, Australia, India, the U.K. and France. In addition to the film screenings, the Festival will present expert panel discussions, workshops, filmmaker Q&A's, nightly parties and live music.

 

The Festival will open on Wednesday, January 25, 2017, at 6:30 pm at the Acadiana Center for the Arts with the U.S. Premiere of Zachary Richard, Cajun Heart. The film will be followed by a gala reception with French Canadian filmmaker Phil Comeau and Zachary Richard in attendance.

 

The Festival will continue through Wednesday, February 1, 2017, with films screening at Cite des Arts beginning on Thursday, January 26 through Wednesday, February 1. Films will also screen at Vermilionville Performance Center on Thursday, January 26 and Friday, January 27, and at Acadiana Center for the Arts on Saturday, January 28 and Sunday, January 29. Films will screen for free at the Lafayette Parish Library South Regional Branch on Saturday, January 28 and Sunday, January 29.

 

The Festival will close on Wednesday evening, February 1, 2017, at Acadiana Center for the Arts with the U.S. Premiere of the narrative feature film Tatara Samurai. The evening will end with a closing gala reception with honored guests, Japanese director Yoshinari Nishikori, executive producer Eugene Nomura and actors in the film, as well as a Japanese TV and press crew.
